Importing Through Karachi: Port Qasim, KPT and West Wharf Explained

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) — West and East Wharves

KPT handles containerised and general cargo at the West and East Wharves, plus bulk cargo at dedicated berths. It is close to Karachi's industrial and commercial areas.

Clearance at KPT runs through WeBOC/PSW with collectorates based around the port area.

Port Qasim — the modern deep-water option

Port Qasim, about 35 km east of the city, handles container vessels, liquid bulk and LNG. Storage free time and terminal procedures differ from KPT, so your clearing agent must plan drayage and examination slots accordingly.

For regular importers, telling the supplier which terminal is intended can help coordinate freight and clearance planning.

Air freight at Jinnah International

Urgent, high-value or perishable cargo can move through Karachi's air cargo complex. Air GDs can clear quickly when documents are right, but airlines may levy storage charges after short free periods.
